Couple call RV-living a 'life change' - Joplin Globe
Allen Anglin also cited the park’s central location as an attraction. “If they get into it and get hooked on it, they just continue to increase and grow,” he said. Business is good in the RV industry. "Because an RV is a larger discretionary purchase people borrow money to complete. “No matter where we are in the United States, to get back, it’s about the same distance,” he said. “You really have to look at this as a life change,” he said. “We don’t have electric bills,” she said. "It makes sense when you think about it," Broom said. According to the Recreational Vehicle Industry Association, that number would more than double the industry’s 2009 recession low. , an RV-maker, with its Customer Satisfaction Index Award all 17 times the award has been given. The Anglins say they like to take their time in their travels, going 200 miles per day or less. “The industry is absolutely running over itself trying to get stuff out the door,” Lown said. Mary Anglin said the reasons are pretty simple. “When we were working, you had two weeks’ vacation,” Mary Anglin said. ’ So we always said when we retired, we wanted to travel and see things. They see doctors in the area for their medical care — Mary frequently has blood drawn to monitor her rheumatoid arthritis — and also have doctors they can see in Texas, where they often spend much of the winter. For Allen and Mary Anglin, RV living is a lifestyle. Lown said Newmar has recently rolled into the stock of 2017 models, and a new motor home ordered now wouldn’t be available until mid-to-late October because of high demand. Still, he echoed the Anglins’ sentiment that people deciding to live in an RV is more a matter of a lifestyle than a result of economic factors. “We don’t have water bills, we don’t have leaves to do every fall, we don’t have fertilizing to do every spring. The couple chose Coachlight after contacting Newmar, seeking a dealer from whom to buy an RV. Lown was the one who called and earned the Anglins’ business. The Anglins park at Coachlight RV Park in Carthage every April and October. CARTHAGE, Mo. — Industry analyst Richard Curtin projects recreational vehicle shipments will see a year-over-year increase of 2 percent in 2016. . The boost would mean the shipment of 381,800 units this year. Marty Lown, Coachlight RV Sales & Service president, said his company has been honored by Newmar Corp. Lown estimated 60 percent of his buyers are first-time RV owners, and said baby boomers reaching retirement age could be a factor. The couple, 76 and 73, respectively, have been living in an RV full time for 17 years after reaching retirement age and deciding to sell their home, opting for the open road. Broom said traffic on promotional websites stayed high, trade shows were well attended and even campgrounds themselves stayed full, people just weren't buying new units like they are today, when the economy has largely recovered from the recession. “That’s what we do. God created a lot of things, and man’s destroying it. So we’re trying to get there before he destroys it. ”. RVIA spokesman Kevin Broom said RV sales have long been a strong economic indicator, and while sales dragged during... RV and trailer prices on Coachlight’s website range from $13,900 for a 29-foot Jayco travel trailer to $802,600 for a 45-foot Newmar King Aire motor home. Although the Anglins’ goal was to travel and see the world, Allen Anglin said, moving around every day can make even experienced RV dwellers road-weary. Lown said 15 to 20 people at the Coachlight RV Park live in their RVs full time. Now, home is where the Anglins want it to be. “God directed us in a direction, said ‘go see stuff that you’ve never seen before,’” Mary said. Broom said while retirees are a large part of the RV industry's ownership demographics, the average age of an RV owner is 48. "It’s really going across all demographics," he said.
